About Gala Digital
What is Gala Digital?
Gala Digital is a Los Angeles agency that helps U.S. talent enter the China market. We set up, verify and manage official accounts on WeChat, Weibo, Douyin and XiaoHongShu (RED), localize content for Chinese audiences, and source and negotiate brand partnerships in China.
Where is Gala Digital based?
Gala Digital is based in Los Angeles, California. We work with talent remotely, so you can grow in China without leaving the U.S.
What makes Gala Digital different from other agencies?
Gala Digital focuses only on the China market and handles everything end to end, from platform verification to brand-deal negotiation. We work for the talent, keep the accounts in your name, and use only legitimate methods: no bought followers, bots or paid deletion.
Who does Gala Digital work with?
We work with U.S. talent who have international reach: actors, musicians, athletes, content creators, influencers and live streamers. We’re usually the best fit for talent with 100K+ global followers, or 50K+ in high-demand categories like fashion, beauty, gaming, music, sports and lifestyle. We work selectively and build for long-term revenue.
What services does Gala Digital provide?
Our services cover platform registration and verification, content translation and cultural localization, content planning and daily account operations, community management and moderation, brand-partnership sourcing and negotiation, and China representation.
China’s platforms
Which Chinese platforms do you work with?
We work with China’s four major social platforms: WeChat (messaging and official accounts, essential for brand communication), Weibo (public posts and trending topics, often compared to X/Twitter), Douyin (short-form video) and XiaoHongShu, also called RED or Little Red Book (lifestyle, fashion and beauty discovery).
Is Douyin the same as TikTok?
No. Both are owned by ByteDance, but Douyin is a separate app for mainland China with its own users, rules and creator ecosystem. TikTok is not available in mainland China, so a TikTok following does not carry over to Douyin.
Can fans in China see my Instagram, TikTok or YouTube?
Not without a VPN. Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and most Western platforms are blocked in mainland China by the Great Firewall. To reach fans there, you need official accounts on Chinese platforms.
How does account verification work in China?
We handle the whole process: preparing your documents, submitting applications and following up with each platform. Each platform has its own official badge (Weibo’s Blue V, a WeChat Official Account, a XiaoHongShu Pro account, Douyin’s celebrity or enterprise verification) and its own requirements. Some, like XiaoHongShu and Weibo, require the account to be active for a period before you can apply.
Is it legal for U.S. talent to be on Chinese social media?
Yes. Foreign public figures can hold verified accounts on Chinese platforms. We register and run accounts following each platform’s rules and China’s content regulations, which helps avoid suspensions and penalties.
Getting started
How long does it take to launch in China?
A simple one- or two-platform launch (for example WeChat and Weibo) typically takes 4 to 6 weeks once your documents are ready. A full launch on all four platforms typically takes 8 to 11 weeks. Launches that cross Spring Festival or National Day (Golden Week) take longer, because platform reviews pause over Chinese holidays. Content strategy starts as soon as you sign.
What do I need to provide to get started?
You’ll complete our Client Intake Form and provide your brand guidelines and assets (logos, approved imagery, bios), a passport and, if relevant, business documents for verification, and a Power of Attorney that lets us act for you on the platforms. For non-Chinese nationals the Power of Attorney must be notarized. How quickly we receive documents is the biggest factor in launch time.
How do I get started with Gala Digital?
Book a free call so we can learn your goals and check whether China is a fit. If you want a deeper look first, we offer a paid China Market Audit. Next, you sign our Master Services Agreement and a Service Order Form, complete the intake form and send your documents, and we build your launch timeline.
Do I need a Chinese business entity?
Not necessarily. Depending on the platform and your goals, accounts can be registered under your personal identity or an existing business entity.
Do I need to speak Chinese?
No. We handle translation, localization and communication in Mandarin Chinese.
Do I need to move to or travel to China?
No. Our team is based in Los Angeles and handles account setup and management remotely. Travel only comes up when a specific opportunity calls for it.
What if I’m not sure China is right for me?
Start with a consultation. We’ll look at your positioning and China-market readiness and tell you honestly whether the investment makes sense, including when it doesn’t.
Your accounts and content
Who owns my Chinese social media accounts?
You do. Every account we register is in your name and stays your property; we manage it for you. If our agreement ends, we transfer full administrative access to you within 14 days.
What if I already have accounts in China?
Tell us what you have and we’ll assess it. Some accounts can be brought under management or expanded to more platforms, but some platforms limit changes after verification. Douyin, for example, doesn’t allow account ownership to change after real-name verification.
Do I need to create separate content for China?
Not necessarily. We can adapt your existing content with translation and cultural localization, create China-specific content, or combine the two, depending on your goals and plan.
Do I approve content before it’s published?
Yes. We send content for review at least 48 hours before it goes live (72 hours on our Launch plan). If we don’t hear back within that window, routine posts go ahead so your accounts stay consistent. Brand partnerships, crisis-related posts and sensitive topics are never published without your explicit approval.
How often will you post for me?
Posting frequency depends on your plan: 4–6 posts a month on Launch, 8–12 on Grow, 12–20 on Scale, and a custom cadence on Enterprise.
How do you handle cultural differences?
We build your content strategy around how Chinese platforms and audiences actually work: platform algorithms, internet taboos, sensitive dates, pop culture and trends. Every post is localized, not just translated.
Will you use AI to create content of me?
Never without your separate written consent. We don’t create AI avatars, voice clones or AI lip-synced translations of a client unless they sign a dedicated Voice & Likeness Consent Addendum, and we label all AI-generated content as the law and platform rules require.
Brand partnerships and revenue
How do brand partnerships in China work?
On our Grow plan and above, we source brand opportunities in China, bring them to you for approval, negotiate the terms, and manage the campaign. You approve every deal and keep creative control.
What kinds of deals can I expect in China?
Common opportunities include brand sponsorships and endorsements, product collaborations, virtual and in-person event appearances, social commerce partnerships and live-streaming campaigns.
How much can I earn in China? Do you guarantee results?
It depends on your following, engagement and category, so we don’t guarantee follower counts, engagement or revenue. Before you commit, we share conservative projections based on comparable talent.
What do you report on?
We report on follower growth, engagement (likes, comments and shares), content reach, audience demographics, your brand-partnership pipeline and revenue generated. Reports are monthly on Launch, bi-weekly on Grow and weekly on Scale, with custom dashboards on Enterprise.
How will I communicate with my team?
You’ll have a dedicated point of contact, and Scale and Enterprise clients get a dedicated account manager. You can reach us by email, phone, WeChat or video call.
Pricing and contracts
How much does Gala Digital cost?
Plans start at $2,500 a month (Launch) and go up to Enterprise, which starts at $25,000 a month for multi-talent teams. There’s also a one-time setup fee and a revenue share on brand deals we source. We’ll recommend a plan and give exact pricing on a call.
How does the revenue share work?
In addition to the monthly fee, we earn a commission only on brand deals, sponsorships, endorsements and paid collaborations that Gala Digital sources or negotiates. Deals you or your management bring in on your own, and existing brand relationships, are not included.
Can I cancel?
Yes, with 60 days’ written notice. Each plan has a minimum commitment period; ending the contract early during that period requires paying 50% of the remaining contract value. After the minimum period, contracts continue month to month.
Is my information kept confidential?
Yes. We keep your information, content, strategy and financial data strictly confidential and never share it without your written consent, except where the law requires it.
Reputation and crisis
What if there’s negative publicity or a crisis in China?
Crisis management and reputation monitoring are included on our Scale and Enterprise plans and available as an add-on retainer for other clients. The retainer is also open to talent who already operate in China and aren’t on a Gala Digital plan.
Can you help me return to China after a controversy?
Sometimes. We start with an honest assessment of whether a return is realistic, and we’ll tell you if it isn’t. We only use legitimate methods: authentic content, approved public statements, formal platform appeals and lawful takedown requests. We never use paid deletion, bots, fake accounts or payments to platform staff, and no one can guarantee an account will be reinstated.
